A Texas pastor and some of his congregants are riding on horseback to Oklahoma City to present Oklahoma’s governor with a Ten Commandments monument.
The Christian Examiner reports that John Riggs, pastor of the Texoma Cowboy Church in Wichita Falls, TX, decided to ride 100 miles to Oklahoma City in order to present Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin with a small Ten Commandments monument, to replace the one that was recently removed from the grounds of the state Capitol after a court deemed it unconstitutional.
Governor Fallin did not support the removal of the monument and attempted to have it reinstated, although unsuccessfully.
Many, like Riggs, see the monument’s forced removal as a direct affront to the values on which America was built.
“For me personally, my heart is just broken over the state of our country and the direction it's going," Riggs said. "They are historical in our country, in our nation, and critical for our nation to stay and move and function as people."
Riggs wanted to take action to combat the court’s ruling regarding the monument, so he announced to his congregation on Sunday that he was going to ride on horseback to Oklahoma City to present the governor with a smaller version of the Ten Commandments monument.
Although Riggs did not ask for company on his journey, a number of his congregants volunteered to join him in his effort.
Riggs and those with him are scheduled to arrive in Oklahoma City sometime on Friday afternoon.
"We're going back to the grassroots, because it's not easy, but we want people to know we need to go back and not forward,” Riggs stated. “Go back to things we've left behind, which is primarily one nation under God. I want my kids to grow up in an America that glorifies and honors God, not something that is way out in left field that we can't recognize this country.”
