Donald Trump is expected to target presidential candidate challenger Ben Carson in Wednesday’s debate.

Carson has emerged as the frontrunner in some national polls, according to Fox News.

“I'm surprised at Ben Carson, but I go after Ben Carson,” Trump told MSNBC before the CBS/New York Times poll showed Carson ahead 26-to-22 percent. “That's my whole life. If somebody is an opponent, I want to win. Ben Carson is now doing well.”

Carson was at 6 percent in polls in early August, but now this week he is averaging about 22 percent across several polls.

Wednesday night is the third GOP debate and will be held in Boulder, CO.

Carson has said he will not “get into the mud pit” with Trump.

“I'm certainly not going to get into that, no matter what anybody says,” he said.

Trump has called Carson “super low energy” and criticized Carson’s faith.

"I'm Presbyterian," Trump said during a campaign stop in Florida. "That's down the middle of the road. I mean, Seventh-day Adventist, I don't know about."

Carson has asked for an apology, but Trump has said he did nothing wrong.

Trump has also said Carson is “very weak” on illegal immigration.

“I'm doing many deals right now all over the world. I deal with prime ministers and heads of country,” he said. “I will make the best trade deals. I will be strongest and best on the military.”
