In a column for Stream.org Chrisitan writer and radio host Michael Brown says that President-elect Donald Trump has not been afraid to denounce radical Islamic terrorism, unlike President Obama.

Obama has been reluctant to use the words “Islamic terror” or “radical Islam,” choosing instead to speak of “extremism,” or simply “terrorism.”

However, after the recent attack at a Christmas market in Berlin, Germany where the perpetrator drove a truck at high speed into the crowd, killing 12 and injuring nearly 50 others, the president-elect did not shy away from condemning the attack as an act of Islamic extremism.

Yesterday, the Islamic State took responsibility for the attack.

In a statement, Trump said: “Our hearts and prayers are with the loved ones of the victims of today’s horrifying terror attack in Berlin. Innocent civilians were murdered in the streets as they prepared to celebrate the Christmas holiday. ISIS and other Islamist terrorists continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship as part of their global jihad. These terrorists and their regional and worldwide networks must be eradicated from the face of the earth, a mission we will carry out with all freedom-loving partners.”

Through this one statement, Trump did four things which Obama refused to do in eight years, according to Brown.

  1. He Identified “Islamist terrorists” by name, associating them with ISIS
  2. He said that Christians have often been ISIS’ primary targets.
  3. He declared war on these extremists.
  4. He used the phrase “global jihad” with specific reference to Islamic terror.
