Two more NYPD officers have been shot while on duty. Officers Andrew Dossi, 30, and Aliro Pellerano, 38, were shot Monday night (Jan. 5) while investigating an armed robbery at a grocery store.

Both men survived the shooting; Dossi remains in critical but stable condition.

The New York Times reports that police are now on the hunt for two suspects. Authorities do not know if the two suspects were involved with the grocery store robbery.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene on foot before carjacking a white Camaro, which was later found abandoned. Police also discovered a black revolver nearby the abandoned car.

According to Commissioner William J. Bratton, Officers Dossi and Pellerano were not targeted immediately, unlike NYPD Officers Ramos and Liu who died at the hands of a gunman Dec. 20.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio praised the work of the officers for going ‘above and beyond the call’ of duty.

“These officers did something that was extraordinarily brave this evening,” said in a statement. The officers’ shift was ending when the robbery call came in, but the pair “went back out in search of these criminals.”

De Blasio continued, “This is another indicator of the dangers that our officers face in the line of duty. We depend on them to keep this whole city safe.”
