Fourteen people have died in a Ukrainian attack; Pro-Russian insurgents shot down a Ukrainian military helicopter in the newest outbreak of violence in the country.

The helicopter was carrying supplies Reuters reports. It was attacked near the town of Slaviansk, a part of the country that has been under pro-Russian control for almost two months.

“I have just received information using Russian anti-aircraft missiles show down our helicopter near Slaviansk. It had been ferrying servicemen for a change of duty,” said acting president Oleksander Turchinov.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been accused of being behind the helicopter attack, as weapons that were collected at the site were allegedly Russian.

“These are not our weapon -- they were brought from Russia. Serial numbers, year of production, specific models...I am publishing this photograph as proof of the aggression of the Putin regime,” interior minister Arsen Avakov wrote on Facebook.

Insurgent leader Alexander Boroday said, “A terrorist war may happen in the town although we are doing everything to stop that happening so that a peaceful life can continue in the town.”
