How often do we twist what God is saying to us in order to get our own ways? I do it, too. We don’t want to wait on him and follow his instructions, which means we don’t want to obey, which means we miss out on the perfect plans that God has for us and we can make serious messes of our lives.
The people of God, it seems to me, are perpetually pulled toward replacing a “both/and” ethic with an “either/or.” That’s what I think might be happening here.
