People...

It's called an Excerpt/First Chapter. It's a win/win situation where the content provider (Crosswalk in this case) gets good free content, while the author/publisher get to promote their book. It's common, it's above board, it's accepted, it's been around forever. It's nothing to be disappointed about. It's a good article. If you like it and want to read more, buy Martoia's book. If you don't, move on.

I, too, am disappointed. If you're doing an ad do an ad, but be up front about it. I hope the author was charged advertising rates for this underhanded schpiel.

Admittedly, the author's style is engaging, but do you mean to tell me that I just spent my time reading a 5-page ad for a book??? Come on folks. It's called bait-and-switch. I'll think twice before reading a lengthy article in the future. I'm disappointed.
