I know exactly what it's like to be in this situation-with Public Service careers, as I am in my 15th month of employment as a 911-Calltaker with my City's Police Department, and the reduced Family time, due to having worked nights for 3 months during my training, now working evenings (hoping for my Transfer request to go to Days to become a reality soon),and the fact that my days off Rotate,and only give me 2 weekends off every 6 weeks, has been hard, (though the pay, Job Security, advancement opportunities, etc, seem to be a good thing, over the long-term), but I have certainly had to arrange priorities like still going to Church every Sunday, even when I have to work shortly thereafter, and making any Friday Nights I am off "Set In Stone" date-nights with my Wife, making time with my kids and attending their activities a must, when I'm off,etc.

A Christian friend even offered me an opportunity for some extra income today,in a part-time business I am looking into, as well.
