In my last job, my immediate supervisor was in dire need of therapy (and probably a divorce from her abusive marriage). Fitting the standard psychological profile, she missed no opportunity to heap abuse on her team.

The next level of management had been an abused child. Sorry, but my performance review is not for me to play amateur therapist.

The third level above me had an ego so large he had to be moved from the UK to the US; the UK simply does not contain the acreage to contain it.

I saw the handwriting on the wall (Dan. 5:25) but didn't need an interpretation. However, immediate action was not the answer -- had I left on my initiative, I'd have gone home empty-handed. Since I waited them out, they had to pay me 20 weeks for seniority and back vacation I'd had to work through. It would have been more had they not lied about my competency, which [lie] became obvious when they called me in 21 weeks to do "short-term consulting."
