Everyone has bad days. Perhaps today you’re struggling with something out of your control; a broken dream, a frightening diagnosis, a relationship on the rocks. Whatever you may be feeling, it’s important that Christians never give in to despair. There is still hope, even in the worst of times, and music can offer comfort for those willing to listen. If you ever find yourself in need of solace, take a moment and play these five worship songs.

Ubi Caritas by Audrey Assad

Though the melody of Ubi Caritas is certainly beautiful, what makes this song truly striking are its words. For those whose Latin is a bit rusty, the first lyrics translate to, “Where charity and love are, God is there.” It’s an honest, humble reminder of what God has called all Christians to be. Furthermore, Ubi Caritas urges believers to put aside their differences and come together in the presence of Christ. The hymn is a badly needed message of peace in a season overcome by strife.

Beautiful Stranger by Rebecca St. James

Though a bit of an older entry, the moral of Beautiful Stranger remains timeless. Throughout the song, Rebecca St. James reflects on the words of Matthew 25, where Jesus tells his disciples that whatever they do for the least of these, they also do for him. It’s very easy, especially in the wake of political events, for believers to turn their gaze inwards and adopt an attitude of “Christians first”, but that is not how Jesus lived. Beautiful Stranger reminds us to look beyond our preconceptions, and see our neighbors through the eyes of God.

As Sure As The Sun by Ellie Holcomb

We live in a broken world occupied by broken people. Life can be scary, and sometimes it feels like no matter how hard we try, things always fall apart. As Sure As The Sun doesn’t try to gloss over the listeners pain. It acknowledges that there will be moments when we feel lost and abandoned. Yet, even then, God’s love remains the same.

As sure as the sun will rise, His mercy will never end.

Love Changes Everything by Red Rocks Worship

As its name suggests, Love Changes Everything is a soulful testament to how Christ’s love has changed everything. With help from the stirring vocals of Red Rocks Worship, listeners can rejoice in the knowledge that our Heavenly Father has paid the price for our sins. It’s a joyous declaration, one that will bring a smile to the lips of any believer. If the venom of the last few days has got you feeling down, play this song and remember there’s a reason to celebrate.

The Proof of Your Love by For King & Country

Can any words capture the heart of this song better than 1 Corinthians 13?

“If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, 'Jump,' and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing. If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.”

There are many among us who would champion the cause of Christ, but if we do so without love, our efforts are pointless.
