Author, musician, and health and wellness expert, Ruth McGinnis, recently completed work on Breathing Freely – Celebrating the Imperfect Life, her second book for Fleming H. Revell, a division of Baker Book House. (A companion musical CD, Breathing Freely, is also scheduled for release this fall.)
Available October 15, McGinnis's book explains the concept of "breathing freely"--rare life moments that are peaceful and void of complications. She contends, however, that the key to breathing freely is coming to terms with one's own life--history, limitations and strengths alike.
"As I confronted the definitive milestones along the ruptured landscape of my personal life," writes McGinnis in Breathing Freely, "I learned this seldom spoken truth: No matter how often you revisit old injuries, you never get rid of the pain, but by breathing into that pain, much like a woman in labor, you can claim some coexistence with it. You can diminish its ability to extinguish your God-given resilience of spirit--the light that shines from within."
An accomplished musician with a Masters Degree from the prestigious Juilliard School of Music, McGinnis' violin/fiddle prowess has been heard on various recordings and live performances with Amy Grant, Chet Atkins, Michael W. Smith, Vince Gill, and the late bluegrass legend John Hartford.
Just last week, McGinnis' video performance of "The Star Spangled Banner" was aired hourly on big-screen monitors at Mills Malls in 14 markets nationwide during a special September 11 tribute. McGinnis will embark on "The Mills Mall Tour" which will include a Mills Mall grand opening appearance in Denver, Colo. November 14, a Nashville Opry Mills Barnes & Noble appearance December 7, and a Washington, D.C. Potomac Mills Mall and Baltimore Arundel Mills Mall appearance early in 2003.
