Honesty, truth and beauty appeal to everyone, and so people of all ages and backgrounds respond to the music of singer/songwriter Andrew Peterson, the newest artist on Watershed Records. "My music is 'folk music' in the literal sense," Andrew says, "meaning that it's music for the common people. It's not too lofty, artsy or hard to understand."
Andrew is the same way himself. He is one of the most normal people you will ever meet. He is down-to-earth and friendly, and he doesn't try very hard to be cool. When you meet him, you would never guess how much he has done in the last few years. But, as Andrew points out, "When you give your life to God, He will do things that will confuse and amaze you."
Although he had played music for a long time, it was just five years ago, while a college student, that Andrew first began to offer his music "as a frail and simple gift to God." At the same time, he met Jamie Eades, and the two were soon married. Jamie encouraged Andrew to pursue music. In fact, Andrew says, she's always been the voice of encouragement in his life: "I can write the worst song - absolute garbage - and she'll tell me to play it again." Jamie supported the family with a teaching job until she joined Andrew singing on the road. "Basically," Andrew says, "we decided we'd rather be poor and together."
In 1996, Andrew and Jamie met guitarist Gabe Scott. "Somehow God put Gabe in our life," Andrew says, "and immediately we all felt a weird, surreal connection." So they asked Gabe to join the group full-time. "Gabe is an incredible musician, and I recognized it the first time I met him," Andrew says. "We wouldn't be where we are now without him, and I wouldn't want to be."
