In a nutshell: In some ways, Back & Forth, the first full-length release from Lanae' Hale, sounds overly familiar. The stamp of Nashville production marks every song. Every sound so pointed, clean, and overly perfect. Sometimes a skilled producer can help an artist, but the raw talent of Hale's songwriting and her unique voice may not need such tightening. In fact, some of the best songs on this ultimately inviting album are the broken-down tunes where Hale's expressive voice and quirky lyrics are able to shine through (like "Headed Home").
