Damita’s Sharper Than Ever on No Looking Back

Artist: Damita
Title: No Looking Back
Label: Tyscot

This summer, Damita Haddon made a long-awaited return with her sophomore release No Looking Back. After seven long years since her debut on Atlantic Records, No Looking Back reveals a confident songstress whose musical skills are sharper than ever.

Clearly Damita has taken the “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” adage to heart, wasting no time reintroducing her fans to her refreshing signature style as soon as they press play. Imagine Damita as an angelic mouthpiece for God relaying His very personal message of love and protection to the world on songs like "Plain and Simple." She spices things up with a little island flavor, not to mention a great horn section, with "Best Thing," and later gives the listener a taste of the Orient with "Don’t Leave Me Lonely."

The title track, "No Looking Back," is buried in the project as track number eight. Although it’s a beautiful song with solid lyrical substance, if not careful, it may get lost in the shuffle. Even so, it was among the most added singles in gospel radio two weeks in a row. The song that follows could easily take center stage as the cornerstone of the project. With personal anthem-type charisma and a super, stick-in-your-head, catchy hook, "Crossing Over" easily carries its own weight.

Many artists boast of projects that contain something for everyone. An attempt to satisfy a variety of tastes often leaves the listener feeling trapped amidst musical mayhem. Not so for this project. All 13 full-length songs are woven together like squares of a beautiful, handmade patchwork quilt—all uniquely individual, yet when fused, create a priceless masterpiece.
