In a nutshell: Full of swanky strings and gritty horns, vocalist Sheri Jones-Moffett is bringing the faith and the funk without forsaking her deep heritage in traditional Black Gospel. Alternating between dance-worthy, Holy Ghost-induced up-tempo grooves and inspiring praise ballads, the veteran combines her legendary work with Kirk Franklin, The Clark Sisters, Kim Burrell, et al. and her own retro soul fusion, aptly titling the disc Renewed. And with so many miles already logged in gospel music, she really needs no introduction. But in case you are unfamiliar with Jones-Moffett, this solo debut should make the two of you fast friends.
