A Deeper Faith
Garden City Music
Having scored success in jazz and New Age circles with his original piano instrumentals, John Tesh turns to praise and worship songs on his latest release, publicly acknowledging his faith in Jesus Christ on A Deeper Faith.
Tesh, perhaps best known as the former co-host of Entertainment Tonight, gave up his high-paying hosting gig to focus on composing and performing instrumental music during the mid-1990s. Though some comedians laughed at his music career, Tesh got the last laugh after scoring two Gold albums in conjunction with highly successful PBS specials, including 1995s Live at Red Rocks.
At a recent taping of The 700 Club in Virginia Beach, Va., he explained how funny he felt playing the piano as worship leader at his home church but not singing the words to songs like Open The Eyes Of My Heart. So, he stepped out on faith and decided to give God his all, recording some vocals on A Deeper Faith. Some vocals, not all, mind you. He knows his artistic limits.
Although Tesh is not a singers singer, the wonder of digital technology beefs up his voice on songs like Trading My Sorrows. And Tesh brings in some guests on A Deeper Faith, like Nicole C. Mullen and his own daughter, Prima. Contemporary Christian musics favorite diva, Natalie Grant, guests on the undeniably stirring ballad I Am Not Alone, co-written by none other than Sen. Orrin Hatch. Even Teshs wife, actress Connie Selleca, shows up, narrating Psalm 66. Overall, A Deeper Faith is vocally diverse.
Tesh is an experimental musician, putting his own innovative spin on modern praise and worship church songs like Youre Worthy of My Praise, The Heart Of Worship, Better Is One Day, and I Could Sing of Your Love Forever.
People may have laughed at John Teshs music before, but his humble perseverance has paid off. A Deeper Faith comes across as a sincere, honest testament to where his heart is, and his willingness to share that with the world.
