"WoW Worship 2003" – Music Review

Artist:   Various
Label:   Reunion Records

Worship fans will marvel at the diversity of this double CD set. Matt Redman’s “Hungry” is given a dreamy, acoustic treatment from Joy Williams that yields gorgeous musical results, and “You Are My King” continues down the mostly mellow path via NewSong’s standout harmonies and atmospheric strings.

Unfortunately Mark Schultz’ vocals on “Shout to the Lord” are too gentle to make it compelling; most of 4Him’s voices on “Thy Word” are obscured by overproduction; and Jars of Clay’s “Be Thou My Vision” is tastefully simple but nothing spectacular.

Among the best tracks are the more familiar tunes, including Michael W. Smith’s version of Rich Mullins’ “Awesome God,” Mac Powell and Caedmon’s Call’s duet on the definitive “God of Wonders” and Rich Mullins’ live rendition of “Step By Step.”
