The Battle

December 18, 2013

Before we receive Christ as our personal Savior, we have an evil nature called in Scripture by such names as “the old man” or “the natural man.” We are controlled by that nature and the influences of Satan. We are Satan’s children. If you will, remember the Pharisees in the Bible. They were not children of God. Listen to what Jesus said about them and to anyone who is not a child of God:

John 8:44 – “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do….”

You see, when you are not controlled by God, in the person of the Holy Spirit, you are controlled by your soul where your selfish desires are. We want our own way and take our own way, and the only conflict we have is with other people who also want their own way. But, when we are born again, we are given a new nature which is born of God and is called “the new man’ or “the spiritual man” created in Christ Jesus. This new nature does not love sin, and desires the will of God instead of self-will.

Now the battle begins! These two natures are opposites and are at odds with each other, and we find ourselves saying the same thing the Apostle Paul said

Romans 7:15 & 19 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. ‘For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.”

At that moment my friend, when you feel this way, this is your reminder to surrender completely to the control of the Holy Spirit Who lives in you. He will keep you above this pull of the evil nature.
