What Happens After Death

February 20, 2014

God has given all the information that we need about the hereafter in His Holy Word. Jesus Christ Himself tells us what lies beyond the grave.

You see, mankind is superior to other forms of life in that he is an immortal person, meaning, he lives forever. Yes, the body dies, but the real you, your person, spirit and soul, lives forever. Mankind has a spirit, soul, and body. The spirit and soul make up the person. God’s Word teaches us that there is only one of two destinations for persons after death – Heaven or Hell. Heaven is an actual destination. The Bible teaches there are three Heavens:

  • The first heaven is the atmosphere around us, where clouds are and where birds fly.
  • The second heaven is the outer universe, containing the galaxies and planets outside of our atmosphere.
  • The third heaven is where God is. This location is also called glory, paradise, and The Holy City.

My friend, God’s heaven is provided for those who have received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

When a believer dies physically, his body is buried to await the resurrection and is said to be “sleeping in Jesus.” This is the Apostle Paul’s comforting and gentle way of saying the body is dead.

The soul and spirit, the person, goes immediately to be with Christ when they die.

2 Corinthians 5:8 – “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord”.”

My prayer is that you will make that decision to put your trust where God has put your sin, on Jesus and you will be with Him forever.
