I Am A Church Member-My First Love-Part 4

May 18, 2015

My friend, in your Christian life would you say you started well and then somehow the glow of your salvation has just settled down? You remember when you were once excited and you wanted to pray, you yearned for God’s Word and His Holy Spirit, you wanted to serve, you wanted to sacrifice, and now this is just not true of you anymore. Let me ask you, in all honesty, did God change? No, my friend, God can’t change, He’s immutable. He has not moved. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. So therefore, it means that you have changed. Look in your heart…what is your love level with God? Is He your first love supremely?

My friend, to love God first and to love God supremely is the answer to most everything in the Christian life. You see, in our own eyes we see service and sacrifice as supreme. Sometime we get it all turned around and we think that as we serve God and as we give more and more, as I do all these things God is going to be pleased with me. My friend, this is not what the scripture teaches and this is not what it supports. If you are a child of God, you are saved and secure forever, already accepted in Christ. The reason you and I serve God is because of what He has already done, not what He is going to do. If we get this turned around it will affect all of our thinking in ways that we do not even realize. God wants our hearts as well as our hands and our minds. God sees a relationship and an intimate fellowship as supreme and this has to be first and foremost.
