What Does Love Mean

November 6, 2013

Today, I want to speak to you about love. We say we LOVE, but what does that mean. Personally, I love coffee. My daughter Maclaren loves pop pop and may mays which is popcorn and M & M’s at our house. I’ve got a friend who loves old cars. I love my wife Kellie and she loves me. I love God and He loves me. We use the word love to mean very different things. What does the Bible say about God’s love?

You see, God’s love is a sacrificial love. We call this agape love.

Now, let’s imagine for a moment, that we could somehow put love on a scale so that we could measure it.  We would find that the love God has for His Son Jesus would be equal to the love God has for you and me.  Think of that, God loves you to the same degree that He loves Jesus.

Jesus said in John 17:23 – “….that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”

That is a powerful truth my friend. This love is a constant, never failing, all encompassing love.  Not a love that is based on your performance or something you did, gave, or said. The only way to know this love is to turn from your sins and put your trust where God has put your sins, on Jesus on the cross.

My friend, this is the most important question you will ever consider, “Am I truly saved?” I’m praying for you my friend.  May you not only know, but also experience God loving you today.
