HONESTY

Read: Proverbs 24

Key Verse: “An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.” - Proverbs 24:26

A friend of mine once said that there are three levels of honesty: kind of honest, honest, and most honest. Kind of honest is making statements that are general and true but superficial. Honest is when you open up more and share what you are really thinking and feeling. Most honest is when you reveal your heart to the full including failures and weaknesses. It is so tempting to be dishonest in many situations.

Honest is important because it honors God. There is a temptation to either say what the other person wants to hear or share what makes us look the best. Honesty opens the door for authentic and deep relationships where two people can grow in their character and unity. When you ask a godly person for their advice, you want the truth even if it hurts a little. There is something refreshing and loving about receiving a clear, direct response.
