Read: Psalm 140
Key Verse: “They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of vipers is on their lips.” - Psalm 140:3
In high school, I am not sure which language I enjoyed the most: English, Spanish, or sarcasm. I took classes for the first two topics, but the third one just came naturally. If there was an opportunity to pounce on someone’s weakness or failures, why be quiet? If I did not like a situation, it was my way of complaining while trying to stay cool. If someone made me angry, let the slander begin. When I came to know the Lord in college, God quickly started to change my tongue.
Your words come from inside of you. If your heart is healthy, your words will be healthy. A sharp tongue simply reveals a rebel heart. Who is the usual recipient of your poisonous words? Maturity is evident in self-control and the selection of words you choose. The lie is that sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me. Verbal violence can be the most penetrating. Ask God to change your words so that they will be a fountain of life and joy to the people who listen to you.
