Read: Psalm 114
Key Verse: “Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,” - Psalm 114:7
Trembling is usually regarded as a negative experience. Why should the earth tremble? The psalmist writes that the Lord has turned back the Jordan River and the Red Sea fled. God brought a pool of water out of a rock and can easily move mountains. The presence of the Lord brings trembling because it represents the greatest amount of respect, reverence, and awe.
Sometimes it takes trembling before we finally turn from sin. Trembling before we share our faith as we ought. Trembling before becoming devoted in prayer. Trembling before being humble in relationships. Trembling is when we take ourselves less seriously and put the focus on God. Trembling wakes up a sleepy follower of Jesus. You would only want to worship a God who truly makes the earth tremble.
