Read Revelation 6

In Today's Reading:

The seven seals; 144,000 sealed; the numberless multitude; four trumpets sounded

The forced exile of John on Patmos and the suffering taking place in Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-10) are examples of the hatred and persecution that were intensifying against Christians throughout the Roman Empire. Hatred towards Christians is once again becoming prominent.

However, we are thrilled to read one of the greatest promises of the Bible: After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb (Lord Jesus Christ), clothed with white robes (portraying their righteousness), and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb (7:9-10; compare 3:4). This revelation has strengthened the faith of Christians throughout history who have faced fierce opposition from a hostile world.

Each generation of believers who have their hearts set upon living for Jesus has always been a small minority. As Jesus foretold: Narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it (Matthew 7:14) Most of these faithful Christians may not have had much in the way of earthly pleasures, but this life is exceedingly short compared to eternity in heaven which will include the believers of all the ages. This includes Old Testament saints who looked forward to the Messiah's coming and everyone since who has accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. The trials we face now will seem insignificant compared to the glorious privilege of being in the presence of the King of kings for all eternity.

The Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes (Revelation 7:17).
