A Love So Great
by Berni Dymet

Hos. 6:6 For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

What I'm about to say might be - well, a bit hard to listen to, but it needs to be said nevertheless.

There are so many people in this world who believe in Jesus.  And many live out that faith by doing things for God.  On the property committee at church.  Leading a home group.  Playing the guitar, managing the church finances …

There are any number of ways that we can - work for God.  And often, it's a sacrifice.  But one of the things that you observe in so many of God's workers - is the absence of joy in what they're doing for God.  It's as though doing stuff for God has become routine, mundane, even burdensome.

Maybe you know someone like that.

But God's desire isn't so much that we do all this sacrificing for Him.  God's desire is that we draw close to Him and get to know Him.  And here's the tough bit - until we do that - all that sacrifice, all that carrying of heavy burdens - is a waste of time.
