Love the Unlovable - Thursday, May 5th 2016
"Friends, I realize that what you did to Jesus was done in ignorance; and the same can be said of your leaders. But God was fulfilling what all the prophets had declared about the Messiah beforehand--that he must suffer all these things. Now turn from your sins and turn to God, so you can be cleansed of your sins."
It really is amazing when you stop to consider the scene. Less than two months before, Peter had seen his leader and friend, Jesus, killed in a conspiracy involving these people. Peter could have tried to call down fire from Heaven. He could have proclaimed that they were going to hell and he was glad. He did none of these things. With grace, mercy and love Peter reached out to these people. He called them friends or brothers. He offered them hope and salvation. He cared enough to tell them the truth and then present the Good News to them. Jesus told us to love our enemies, to do good and we will be rewarded (Luke 6:35). Truly Peter was listening when Jesus said to love your enemies. Are you listening now?
Life Lesson: Be motivated by love.
Teach me to love. Teach me to love those who have hurt me. Teach me to love those who I have decided are unlovable. Change me. Please present me with opportunity to express love to my enemies. I pray this in Jesus' name, amen.
Living to tell what He died to say,
