Like A Lightning Bolt

Luke 17:22-24

"Dave, you've got to come outside!" I rushed unto our front porch and knew immediately why Mary had called me.  Storms don't usually assault from the south, but this one late Saturday afternoon was on the march. The sky darkened. The wind hit, and then a blinding flash of light. One of those spear thrusts from the top of the sky right down to the earth, and almost instantaneously, the deafening thunder.

Mary and I jumped back, and both said, "Did you see that?" But we didn't mean it. No one misses a lightning strike like that. And Jesus told His disciples that there would be a time when He would not be present with them, but when He did return to earth, it would not be a secret. It would be a bolt of lightning everyone will see.

"Now He said to the disciples, 'Days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man but you will not see them. Then they will say to you, 'Look! There.' Or  'Look! Here!' Don't go. Don't follow them. For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side of the heaven to the other, so will the Son of Man in His day.'" - Luke 17:22-24

When we remember those who followed Jim Jones and drank the poison in Guyana to those who were incinerated with David Koresh in Waco, the threat of following false messiahs is real. This is why it is so important to listen to Jesus' warning. The next time He plants His feet on planet earth as predicted in Revelation 19 no one will question whether or not He has arrived.

LORD, thank you so much that You promise that You will visibly return and set up Your Kingdom of justice and love on the earth. The events of the last days prove to us that evil is real. Thanks that in our coming devos we will be reminded about what You did so that we could be forgiven and for the Gospel of grace that we can share before Your return in justice.
