Come Apart

Luke 9:10

“Dad, can we come up for this weekend? Joel, my second son, is a professional counselor in Austin and Mary and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the weekend. He and Courtney with three of our twelve grandkids arrived late Friday night. We already had the sleeping bags down on the floor in my new study and Mary had an area for our oldest granddaughter in her new office. Joel and Courtney had the guest room.

Cooking hot dogs and sausage, exploring the more than four acres, riding Ami’s lawn mower, watching the NCAA basketball tournament, and then worshiping with God’s family on Sunday morning—it couldn’t have been a better. What was special is that Joel and Courtney and their family became the first guests in our new home, and we discovered that the Lord has provided us with our own private retreat center at our new address.

My own dad used to love to invite people to come to Word of Life on the shores of Schroon Lake nestled in the Adirondack Mountains like this, “If you don’t come apart, you’re going to come apart. So you better come apart.”

Even Jesus knew that His disciples after an intense mission trip needed a quiet retreat to recharge. So He took them out in the country to Bethsaida (House of Fish), a small village near the Sea of Galilee.

“When the apostles returned, they related to Jesus all that they had done. He took them off by themselves to Bethsaida.” Luke 9:10

Note: In tomorrow’s Devo we’ll discover that even Jesus couldn’t get away from the crowd for long.
