True Fear

Proverbs 2:5-6

Carroll and Luke, his son, were trying to land on the grass strip, newly mowed, on the east side of the Ashley's land. Jack Ashley was celebrating his tenth birthday, and Carroll and Luke wanted to make a grand entrance. They checked everything out in a low pass. Then they flew their pattern. On final, Luke put in the flaps. He was a student, but his dad had hundreds of hours of experience. High trees blocked the southern approach. The idea was to come in low over the trees, then drop down on to the grass strip, negotiate the uneven terrain, and get everything stopped before you hit the barn at the northern end of the strip. Carroll and Luke were getting ready to try it, but then a healthy fear took over.

Imagine if Adam and Eve would have had a healthy fear of God and respected the consequences of disobeying God's only negative Eden command. Think of all the pain that could have been averted.

The wise father in Proverbs reminds his son that the athletic slogan "NO FEAR" is crazy when applied to our relationship to the great I Am! Listen to his promise to his son.

"Then you will discern the fear of the Lord and you will find the knowledge, intimacy with God, for the Lord gives wisdom (skillful living). From His mouth comes knowledge and discretion." - Proverbs 2:5-6

LORD, protect me from a crazy boldness that thinks I can get away with disobeying the instructions in Your Word. Move me to respect You as an all-powerful, but tender Father. Pour Your wisdom into my life and thanks that Adam and Eve's disobedience didn't surprise You. Thank you for the gift of Your Son.
