Remove the mask for good
“How can you say to your friend, ‘Friend, let me take that little piece of dust out of your eye’ when you cannot see that big piece of wood in your own eye! You hypocrite! First, take the wood out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to take the dust out of your friend’s eye.” Luke 6:42
Hypocrisy will wear us out. Pretending to be something we aren’t – or someone we aren’t – is absolutely exhausting. The constant need to check what we’re saying in front of whom, and to remember to act a certain way in front of some people and another way in front of other people – few things are more tiring.
God’s plan for your life is one of power and purpose. He wants you to have the kind of influence in people’s lives that leads them to a relationship with Him and to life change. But when we live as hypocrites, we waste our energy on appearances. Don’t waste your energy. Instead, discover the freedom that comes with being authentic, and experience the life of influence and purpose God has for you!
Thank God for the plan He has set forth in your life. Pray for the kind of discipline it takes to experience that plan. Pray for God to help you remove the mask of hypocrisy for good!
Read Matthew 23. Count how many times Jesus called out the “hypocrites”. When you are tempted to act in a way that contradicts your words, remember Jesus’ words, and insert your name into the text every time the word “hypocrite” appears.
