Consistency over Culture
“But we ought always to thank God for you… because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.” >2 Thessalonians 2:13
For just a moment, ask yourself: “What do I believe about God, and why do I believe it?” So many of us take our cues from culture. We listen to talk shows, read political blogs, and get caught up in the media game. And it causes us to start to doubt, perhaps, the reality that God is ultimately in control.
As Christ followers, everything we believe should be based on two things: the ultimate lordship of Jesus Christ and the inherent authority of God’s Word, the Bible. Many people take their cues from Hollywood or Washington, but the only true standard is God and what He has to say. Don’t fall victim to the hype. Don’t ebb and flow with the current of culture. Instead, base your life on the truth of God’s Word, and allow His standard to set yours.
Ask God to protect you against the changing tide of popular opinion. Ask Him for opportunities to stand as an example of truth in love.
When you find yourself dealing with a subject that is debated in culture, like our government, ask one simple question: “What does the Bible say about this?”
Fifty Shades of They gives you fifty simple, yet profound insights that will help any relationship thrive, from friendships to business partnerships to marriages. Based on biblical standards and the teaching of Ed Young, this book is written for anyone who is looking to give new life to their relationships.
