Fear Will Steal Your Blessings
By Carolyn Dale Newell

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV

I could not believe it. Fear had snuck up on me. I am the one who encourages others not to be fearful. Yet, there it was. I had the opportunity to attend a women’s conference along with many other devotional writers, but I declined because I did not want to go alone.

I began receiving e-mails from these wonderful ladies that I had never met, and they were offering to spend time with me. However, the problem really wasn’t that I did not want to be alone, but I am almost totally blind, and I was afraid to ask for help!

I thought I had overcome that fear long ago. I am the one who always tells people with disabilities that they are their own worst enemy when they don’t ask for help.

I sent an honest reply explaining the areas in which I would need help. I attended the conference, and a sweet lady accompanied me for the entire day. I had such a wonderful, encouraging time, and I made some new friends.

The conference was a great blessing, and I almost missed it because of fear.

Fear does not come from God. It comes from our flesh and Satan. Jesus said that one sparrow does not fall to the ground apart from the Father’s will. “Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” Matthew 10:31 NKJV.

Since God knows the smallest details about the sparrows, He certainly knows the details of our lives. What do we have to fear with a loving Father?

Is there something causing you fear? Could it rob you of a blessing? Don’t allow your fear to steal your joy. Turn your fear into faith in God who is bigger than anything you can fear.

Fear will cross everyone’s path at some point. Even the disciples were the “O ye of little faith” group, but don’t stay in the boat of fear. Walk on the water with Jesus. Keep your focus on Him. When Peter took his eyes off Jesus, he began to sink (Matthew 14:30). As long as we focus on Christ, our fears will cease.

Dear God, forgive me for the times when I allow my weaknesses to take over. Help me to focus on You knowing that I have no reason to fear because You are with me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
