The vineyard of the Lord Almighty is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are the garden of his delight. - Isaiah 5:7
God’s a dad. You are a son. Never forget that.
Every dad who is connected to his son has a special relationship. Dads rejoice when the sons they love reproduce their own best and noblest qualities. Similarly, dads lament over their sons when they don’t see their values and character reproduced in their boys. If you are a dad you know exactly what I am talking about. As a son you probably sense it too.
God’s expectations are high because we are His boys. More often than not God was gravely disappointed when He checked in on His boys. He checked-in back in Isaiah’s day. God talks about his affection for the people, singling out His men. The Word describes a culture of men whose passion for God had been polluted. It seems materialism, addiction, sexual conquers, and being two-faced spiritually were as prevalent then as they are today. Forget gassing the throttle for the Lord, these guys couldn’t even start their engines for Him. We may often forget that God is interested in us.
You are his garden of delight, a garden is a place to sow and enjoy what you have sown. A garden is a place of refreshment, color and beauty that ministers to us. It’s a place of productivity and fruitfulness; to God you represent the possibility of all these things.
Father, you are awesome, thank you for identifying me as your son. You have hidden my faults and your Holy Spirit encourages me.
