I look forward to death with great anticipation, to meeting God face to face. – Billy Graham

There are some faces we will never forget. They are etched into our minds forever, like our spouse's smile or our newborn's tiny face on delivery day. Moses wanted to see the face of God and he makes a bold request:

Moses said, "Now show me your glory." And the Lord said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence…" "But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." – Exodus 33:18-20

As He passed by, God told Moses to bury his face in a rock. God loved Moses very much, but He knew that honoring Moses' request was not the best thing for him. God's physical identity would remain a mystery to Moses. In fact, the Bible says that no man has seen the face of God. He is far too holy!

Though He has taken on many forms (such as the man who wrestled with Jacob), no one has described God's face. In your quest to learn about who God is, you can never know ALL of Him. Certain things are a part of the mystery of God and not for you to solve while you are here on earth.

"Can you fathom the mysteries of God?
Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
They are higher than the heavens—what can you do?
They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know?
There measure is longer than the earth
and wider than the sea." – Job 11:7-9

But isn't this what makes a relationship with God so exciting? How boring ANY friendship becomes the moment we think we have it all figured out!

Dear Lord, thank You for being such a marvelous and mighty God! I am grateful You have given me a mind that I might contemplate Your many mysteries and deeds. Stir in me a thirst to know You more, and yet, give me the peace to be content with those things which I cannot know. Amen.
