JUST SAY NO!

"By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharoah's daughter; choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin; considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward."
Hebrews 11:24-26

In the early 1980’s, First Lady Nancy Reagan began a JUST SAY NO campaign regarding kids and drugs.  If a kid were offered drugs, Nancy told that kid, “Just say no!”

To be sure, that little sentence may sound overly simplistic, but if it is heeded, “Just say no” prevents many potentially devastating problems from ever gaining access to our lives.

HOW SIN GROWS

Who is it that knocks so low?
A lonely little sin.
Slip through, I answered
And soon all hell was in.

Sin always starts out small, but it never stays small.  It grows from a single drink to a full-blown alcohol addiction … from a simple bet to a full-blown gambling problem … from one joint to a crystal meth habit … from fooling around to premarital sex and an unwanted pregnancy.  God says, “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest – and your poverty will come in like a vagabond, and your need like an armed man” (Proverbs 6:10-11).

The truth of the matter is people do not fall into terrible sin all at once; they fall little by little by little.  They crack open the door to this sin and that sin, and enter into a nightmare of alcoholism or drug addiction or gambling addiction or sexual addiction.  These devastating sins wreck and ruin lives, marriages, families, and children.

What is the answer to these potential destroyers?  When the temptations initially come, JUST SAY NO!  Don’t go there!  Don’t open the door and let the evil in.

WHEN THE DEVIL IS INVITED IN

God warns us in Ephesians 4:27“Do not give the devil an opportunity [a place].”  Anytime the devil is given a place in your life, he turns that place into a garbage dump.  Jesus said that the devil is a thief and comes only to steal and kill and destroy (see John 10:10).  When Satan comes knocking on your door, don’t let him in!  The sin he brings with him has temporary pleasure that leads to lasting pain.

The Lord has come to give us an abundant life—a life overflowing with love, joy, and peace.  It is definitely not easy to go against the tide of this world, but it is certainly right and definitely worth it.  Remember: God sees, God knows, and God will reward those who honor Him and are faithful to Him.  If you will follow His Word, His will, and His ways, you will avoid the devil’s landmines and save yourself tremendous heartache and misery.  What is the answer?  JUST SAY NO!
