Money or God?

God has a lot of competition in the category of what people most desire. Jesus had been watching human behavior for many millennia and saw a sad pattern emerge. He saw it in the materialistic heart of one of his closest friends, one of his own chosen disciples, Judas. He saw how easily money could become an idol, a substitute god that ruled in people’s hearts.

He said once,“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money” (Matthew 6:24).

How can you tell whom you’re serving? If you serve Money, you will find justification for lying and cheating to get it. If you serve Money, you will find justification for stealing it, hoarding it, and flaunting it.

If you serve God, you will acknowledge that it all belongs to God. You will see yourself only as a temporary manager who is accountable to the great King. You will find greater joy in using money to accomplish God’s agenda than in acquiring possessions or experiences for yourself. If you serve God, you will enjoy being generous with others, since you know with absolute certainty that God will soon replace all that and give you more.

Start experiencing more of the Holy Spirit’s power!

Scripture is clear that the Holy Spirit is coequal with God the Father and God the Son. But all too often, Christians fail to give him an equal place in their lives.

We want to help you make the Holy Spirit a daily part of your life—so you can experience more of his awesome, life-giving power—by sending you Pastor Mike Novotny’s book, The Neglected Spirit: Understanding and Adoring the Holy Spirit.

The Neglected Spirit is our thank-you for your faithful support to share the timeless truths of God’s Word with more people. So request yours when you give. Thank you!
