The Real Jesus

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

—Matthew 16:15–16

Without question, Jesus Christ is the most fascinating person ever to walk the face of the earth. He is undeniably the most extraordinary, influential individual in human history. More books, music, and dramas have been written about Jesus Christ than any other figure in our past. In fact, His arrival and death were so significant that we actually divide human time and mark off human history by them.

But who is the real Jesus? Is He merely some distant figure in stained glass who cannot be touched or known? Was He a radical revolutionary who had come to change His world? Or was He some kind of guru or one of many sons of god who had come as an example to follow? Peter knew the answer: Jesus is the Son of the living God (see Matthew 16:15–16).

If your desire is to see who the real Jesus is, then the place to look is in the Bible. Jesus said, “ ‘In the volume of the book it is written of Me . . . ’” (Hebrews 10:7). You don’t have to look any further than this. You don’t have to go out and look for a prophet or a guru or someone with a special revelation. You can find everything you need to know about Jesus in the pages of Scripture. The Holy Spirit will illuminate these truths for you. You can begin to know Him, and He will begin to work in your life.
