Beyond First Gear

But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation.

—Hebrews 6:9

When it comes to our salvation, many of us are like someone who drives a Ferrari Testarossa, the ultimate sports car, but never shifts out of first gear: “This thing doesn’t seem very fast to me. . . . I can’t even get it to go more over nine miles per hour.”

A lot of believers are living the Christian life in first gear.  There are many today who will talk about the problems they have, even as Christians.  They say, “Salvation is pretty good, but I don’t know… I am a Christian, and I still have a lot of problems.”  I wonder if they really understand how significant their salvation really is.

They need to take advantage of the power that is under the hood, so to speak.  God has given us this great gift of salvation.  Let’s realize the resources that He has placed in our lives and start drawing upon them.  Let’s start utilizing them and start living out our faith.  Then, as we let these truths affect our lives, we will realize that salvation is enough.  We don’t need anything else.

Because you are a Christian, because you have put your faith in Jesus Christ, God has forgiven you of everything you have ever done.  He has placed the righteousness of Christ into your spiritual bank account.  He has adopted you.  You are His child.  And you can approach Him at any time.  Now, that is a lot to be thankful for!
