With heavier levels of unemployment I found myself this last year counseling more people about their future career path. When someone loses a job it's an excellent time to reflect on strengths and weaknesses, and on God's purpose for their life.
Many call me to network for a job, without having a good idea what they want to do next. Some of my most valuable conversations come from helping them identify God's calling and purpose for their future.
Proverbs 20:5 teaches, "The purposes of a man's heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out."
If you're unemployed, or have a friend who is, spend time drawing out the deep waters God placed in the heart. It will be time well spent.
