Serving Competing Interests
By: Rick Boxx
July 22, 2013

When I was younger I briefly worked for the Internal Revenue Service. I was informed that as a Federal employee my involvement in politics was legally restricted.

Accordingly, I was to abstain from "any active part" in political campaigns. Protecting the public from political bias made sense to me.

Having the nation’s tax collector potentially controlled by a political party would be dangerous. You can’t have IRS employees serving the interests of a political party and reasonably expect them to also serve all citizens properly.

Luke 16:13 teaches, “No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.”

No matter where you work, look out for the danger of competing interests.
