Passion and Talent

As a boy I wanted to become a professional baseball player. For years, I practiced daily, I studied all the great players, and I lived and breathed baseball.
Unfortunately, I was missing a key ingredient - talent. No matter how hard I worked, I never seemed to measure up to my friends who had a God-given talent for the game of baseball.
Excellence for me was my wholehearted effort, but from my coaches’ perspective my lack of talent meant I lacked excellence in their eyes. Excellence is usually most evident when passion and talent collide.
Ephesians 6:7 teaches, “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people.”
If you have God-given talent for your work, don’t forget excellence also requires serving with passion. If you lack talent, excellence is working wholeheartedly.
