A Selfless Player

Dayton Moore, General Manager of the Kansas City Royals, was our keynote speaker at an event in January. Dayton shared that outfielder, Alex Gordon, was one of his heroes because of Alex’s willingness to put the team’s interests above his own.
Alex was a first baseman, but the Kansas City Royals needed him in left field. Many thought this was a bad move for Alex personally, but for the good of the team Alex agreed to the change, greatly enhancing the team’s season.
Philippians 2 teaches, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
Sometimes to build an excellent team you need to set aside your own interests.
