Advice for the Arrogant
By Rick Boxx
October 12, 2011

A study referenced in the Wall Street Journal discovered that people in powerful positions, such as managers, tend to dismiss others’ advice when making decisions. Their extensive research also found that these powerful leaders’ final judgments were less accurate than if they would have taken the advice.

The reason for their reluctance to accept counsel, according to the authors, was their overconfidence in their own judgment, otherwise known as arrogance.

Proverbs 12:15 teaches, “The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice.”

This study also discovered that women were more likely to take advice than men. Men, as you climb the corporate ladder and you become more powerful, don’t forget what many women know, that a wise man still listens to advice.
