Self Deception

In the book, “The Folly of Fools,” the author Robert Trivers revealed that intelligent people are more likely to deceive themselves than the average. As an example, the Wall Street Journal reported that Mr. Trivers’ discovered that more than 90% of professors think they’re in the top half of their profession.

Comparing ourselves to others can lead to self deception.

Galatians 6:3-4 teaches, “If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else.”

In our workplace we can easily deceive ourselves by comparing ourselves to those we believe are inferior. Instead, we should test our actions against God’s standards and embrace what pleases God and correct what doesn’t.
