“--¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Nadie es bueno sino uno: Dios.” (San Mateo 19:17 RV).
Me siento avergonzada de admitir que cuándo el veredicto en el proceso de Casey Anthony fue dado, mi primera reacción (después del choque que casi me vota al suelo) fue el pensamiento, ¡Ella se salió con el asesinato! Pero entonces oí una pequeña voz dentro de mí que decía, “Y a ti te pasó igual.”
¡Qué tan rápido nos olvidamos! Así como Casey Anthony y todos los demás quién han caminado alguna vez sobre esta tierra — con la única excepción del mismo Hijo de Dio s— yo me encontraba perdida en el pecado y en el camino al infierno, culpable en todos los cargos, viviendo en la Celda de los Condenados a Muerte y sin realizarlo. Y luego, el 5 de julio de 1974 (exactamente 37 años hasta el día antes del anuncio del veredicto de “no culpable” de Casey Anthony), yo fui “puesta en una emboscada por Jesús de Nazaret” y declarada “no culpable.” Dios, en Su soberanía y por medio de Su piedad y gracia, me sacó lejos de la Celda de los Condenados a Muerte y me trasladó del reino de la oscuridad al Reino de Su querido Hijo. ¡Qué milagro! Y aún, 37 años después, con qué facilidad respondo a lo que parece una parodia de la justicia con palabras de condena.
¡Perdóname, Señor! No es que Dios en ese momento trató con mi corazón para creer que en realidad Casey Anthony era en efecto inocente del delito de matar a su preciosa hija, pero más bien que Él me recordaba del viejo refrán, “Allí pero para la gracia de Dios voy yo.” Dios no fue tomado de sorpresa por este veredicto inesperado, y Él declara en Su Palabra que Él “no será burlado.” Nuestros pecados ciertamente “nos descubrirán” - no sólo los de Casey Anthony, pero los nuestros también, a menos que ellos sean perdonados “bajo la sangre” del Salvador que ya fue a la Celda de los Condenados a Muerte por nosotros y aún más allá.
¿Se salió Casey Anthony con el asesinato? Yo no lo sé… pero Dios si lo sabe. Y Él la ama tanto que envió a Su único Hijo para morir por ella de modo que ella pudiera tener la oportunidad de volverse hacia Él y pedirle Su perdón. Nosotros podemos orar para que ella haga esto, porque las Escrituras nos hacen recordar que es sólo por Sus piedades que todos nosotros no somos consumidos y en forma legítima echados al infierno.
¡Qué Dios tan poderoso y misericordioso que nosotros servimos! Recordémonos de caminar humildemente ante Él.

I’m ashamed to admit that when the verdict was rendered in the Casey Anthony trial, my first reaction (after fall-on-the-floor shock) was the thought, She got away with murder! But then I heard that still, small voice inside me say, “So did you.”
How quickly we forget! Like Casey Anthony and everyone else who has ever walked this earth—with the single exception of the Son of God Himself—I was lost in sin and headed for hell, guilty on all counts, living on Death Row without even realizing it. And then, on July 5, 1974 (exactly 37 years to the day prior to the announcement of Casey Anthony’s “not guilty” verdict), I was “ambushed by Jesus of Nazareth” and declared “not guilty.” God, in His sovereignty and by His mercy and grace, plucked me off of Death Row and translated me from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of His dear Son. What a miracle! And yet, 37 years later, how readily I respond to what appears a travesty of justice with words of condemnation.
Forgive me, Lord! It is not that God at that moment dealt with my heart to believe Casey Anthony was indeed innocent of the crime of killing her precious daughter, but instead that He reminded me of the old saying, “There but for the grace of God go I.” God was not caught off-guard by this unexpected verdict, and He declares in His Word that He is “not mocked.” Our sins will certainly “find us out”—not just Casey Anthony’s but ours too, unless they are forgiven and “under the blood” of the Savior who already went to Death Row and beyond for us.
Did Casey Anthony get away with murder? I don’t know…but God does. And He loves her so much that He sent His only Son to die for her so that she could have the opportunity to turn to Him for forgiveness. May we pray that she does, for as we are reminded in the Scriptures, it is only by His mercies that we all are not consumed and rightfully cast into hell.
What a mighty and merciful God we serve! May we remember to walk humbly before Him.
