Today's Scripture

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." - Proverbs 3:5-NLT

Thoughts for Today

From Moses' example, we can see a close relationship with God can make a valuable difference in how we handle our determination in the circumstances of life. Remember how Moses initially took things into his own hands and tried to control people. But as he grew in a relationship with God, he relied more on God to control people and circumstances and became humble. He relied on God's strength and wisdom rather than his own. This does not mean he was any less bold. His boldness was just rooted in God, not in himself.

Consider this …

Are you feeling determined to do something about a relationship or situation? God wants to help you make the right choices. Consider how to proceed based on the resources God makes available.

The Spirit of God. Pray about the situation. Honestly seek God's plan and trust Him for wisdom. Be sensitive to the leading of the Spirit of God.

The Word of God. Have you looked in the Bible for principles that would apply to your situation? A Bible concordance or an online search can help if you are not sure where to look. An online search for "Bible [topic]" can produce a multitude of helpful Scriptures.

The People of God. Have you consulted mature Christian friends? God often works through others to give us helpful insights and direction.

Prayer

Father, thank you that I don't have to rely on myself. I am determined to work out this situation, but I want to do it your way, not mine. And I know I need to do it in your strength, not mine. Thank you for the help you give me through your Spirit, your Word, and the people you bring into my life. In Jesus' name . . .

These thoughts were drawn from …Where is the Image of God in You? by Brad Rymer. The purpose of this study is for us to see how some of the different character traits we have can be used in constructive rather than destructive ways in our lives and relationships so that we are operating more and more in the image of God according to the way He created us. Also, this study can help us better understand others as we build godly relationships. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups, and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals or couples.
