Obstacles - One Year Devotions for Women

“Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will flatten out before him! Then Zerubbabel will set the final stone of the Temple in place, and the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’ ” - Zechariah 4:7

God promised through the prophet Zechariah that the obstacles to Zerubbabel’s task of rebuilding the temple would be removed. God himself would intervene, so the temple would be finished. No mountain, however high, could stand in Zerubbabel’s way. God himself would flatten it out before him.

But what about my mountains? Sometimes it’s not just a case of moving the mountains. Sometimes they just need to be turned into molehills or flattened out so we can walk right over them. God can turn difficult mountain passes into roadways of redemption. As we all face and overcome obstacles through faith in God’s power, we will find ourselves traveling along a spiritual highway into new dimensions of growth that can help others. When we face roadblocks along the path of life, it’s good to stop and realize that our human ingenuity or sheer willpower may not be enough to resolve the problem.

Jesus told us to have faith in him, and mountains will be removed (Matthew 17:20). Maybe you are facing a personal mountain that blocks you from the blessings God would give you. There is not a mountain God cannot make into a road. He who made the mountains can demolish them. To believe that is to see the entrance ramp on the road out of your dilemma. It may take time—God knows that. But he says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin” (Zechariah 4:10). Keep walking step by step, and let God take care of the mountains.
