How Great You Are

The king declared to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, "Are you able to make known to me the dream that I have seen and its interpretation?"

Daniel answered the king and said, "No wise men, enchanters, magicians, or astrologers can show to the king the mystery that the king has asked, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days (Daniel 2:26-28a).

Bible says, "The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working" (James 5:16b). When we lay hold of God in passion, earnestness, and with faith, that's when God begins to hear and act upon the things that we pray when we come before Him. In prayer we discover just how great God is!

In the context of today's passage, Daniel seeks and finds the Lord in prayer.  Then Daniel 2:19 it says, "The mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night."  Daniel was pacing back and forth and all of a sudden, big screen, right in front of him, and God shows him the whole thing supernaturally.

Well, anyway, he gets before the king, who's not in a very good mood. Notice the king's greeting above in verse 26. No, "Hi, Daniel."  No, "How's your family?" It's all about, "Do you have the dream?"  Take a moment and read Daniel's answer above.

Now how great is Daniel's phrase, "However, there is a God?" Daniel was telling a polytheistic king, "There is one God, one true God, and all of your idols and paganism will never be able to come up with this dream. But here it is."

Now, the main point of Daniel 2 is not the vision. The real thing that this event is showing us is the awesome faithfulness of God, who sovereignly protects and provides for those whose hearts are loyal to Him. It shows what God will do for people who come sincerely and humbly before Him at a critical time in their life.

And that's what Daniel practiced. He comes before the king and he's like, "Hey, your guys can't do this; however, there is a God." Daniel made it very clear where this was coming from. Then he says, "Do you want to know where I fit into this dream interpretation thing? You're gonna start thinking that I'm something special—well, don't. Look, I don't know this, ‘cause there's nothing special about me.  I know this because there is a God in heaven."

Daniel shows us that God will give us opportunities to say to the world around us, "These blessings and miracles and wisdom—they're not about me! There's a God in heaven! And He is great!"
