1 Kings 19:9-18

How’s Your Hearing?

Today we read about God speaking to Elijah on Mount Horeb. Every time I read this passage, I’m struck by how God chose to speak, not through the wind and the fire, but in a calm, low whispering voice (vs. 12). There have been a number of times over the years when I’ve felt like I wasn’t hearing from God. But as I look at this passage, I think maybe my expectations of how I would hear from God (loud voice, big reactions, specific outcome, etc.) got in the way of hearing His calm, soft response.
